The Call of Moses -TheHeart of God and Our Invitation

Text: Exodus 2:23-4:13

The Heart of God and Our Invitation

God is fully aware of all circumstances

He knew the condition of the Israelites. He knew their suffering.

Footnotes:

Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed,”

Ex 2:23-25 Now it came about in the course of those many days that the king of Egypt died. And the sons of Israel sighed because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry for help because of their bondage rose up to God. So God heard their groaning; and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God saw the sons of Israel, and God took notice of them.

God takes notice of suffering

God heard their groaning

God remembered His promises

God acts on behalf of His children

God came down to deliver them

God promised to bring them to a better place

Footnotes:

Ex 3:7-8 The Lord said, “I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and have given heed to their cry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings. So I have come down to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to

a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.

God invites people to join Him

God invited Moses to be His instrument

Footnotes:

Ex 3:10 “Therefore, come now, and I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt.”

Faith or Fear or Fake

Moses expressed reluctance

Who am I that I should go?

Who shall I say sent me?

What if they do not believe me?

I’m not well suited for this task.

Send whomever you will (but not me)

Footnotes:

3:11 “But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?”

3:13 Then Moses said to God, “Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you.’ Now they may say to me, ‘What is His name?’ What shall I say to them?”

4:1 “What if they will not believe me or listen to what I say? For they may say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’”

4:10 “Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”

4:13 “Please, Lord, now send the message by whomever You will.”

God does not take rejection kindly

4:14 “Then the anger of the Lord burned against Moses,

Application

God has great compassion for people

God wants to deliver us (and them) from bondage.

God wants to give us (and them) a better life.

God invites US to join Him in His work to reach THEM.

“Come now, and I will send you”

Footnotes:

The heart of God chose to love you, seek you, and save you.

He promises a better life, and a better place in His presence.

Now He invites you to be a part of His mission.

3:10 He says, “Therefore come now, and I will send you.”
